Selena Tainton

by Olivia Golden Uncategorized No Comments

Selena headed home yesterday so she is probably nearly back in Australia. On behalf of the ladies I just want to say big thank you to her. She was a huge asset to us, both as our dedicated coach (she actually made us do fitness - previously unheard of!) and was a brilliant player for the firsts. Despite claiming, on arrival, that she was not a bat her name is now littered all over the honours board getting runs for both us and the men’s teams. I think she can now call her self a bat as well as a fantastic bowler. Her dedication and permanent pleasantness well be greatly missed. She has made a big impression on the ladies and we hope to grow on what she has begun and make her proud! Thanks so much Selena. We’ll miss you greatly!

Ladies 1sts win against Merrion

by Olivia Golden Uncategorized No Comments

I only ever do a write up when we have a win so I should point out that we did play Merrion last week in Merrion. We made 123 for 3 wickets with Selena Tainton getting a lovely 63 runs. Merrion got 127 for 1 off 13.

On Monday we played Merrion again, but a different result! Batting first again we made 115 for 6 wickets. Selena made 24 runs, Marguerite Burke made 36 not out and Laura Erskine 16.

We went out to field with low spirits but that changed quickly with lovely bowling from Selena and Gladys Shaw. There was a quick realisation that we were in with a chance and the whole team got behind every ball. Selena got 3 wickets for 13 runs off 5 overs as well as a crucial catch at deep square leg! Gladys bowled a steady 5 overs only giving them 21 runs. Cecily McGeer got 1 wicket for 37 off 5 and Olivia Golden got 5 for 25 off 5.

Catches were taken by Annette McKeon, Olivia, Selena and two for Fiona Dowling. This win was really important for the team and a real credit to all the girls. We are looking forward to our next home game this Thursday!

Ladies 1sts Clontarf v Malahide 28/06/10

by Olivia Golden Uncategorized No Comments

Clontarf Ladies Firsts won last night against Malahide. Malahide made 135 runs for 8 wickets. Selena Tainton got 2 wickets for 16 runs off 5 and Cecily McGeer picked up a lovely 3 wickets. Laura Cullen came back to bowl with her brand new action and kept runs down to 13 off her 3 overs. Fiona Dowling and Marguerite Burke both took catches.

Clontarf made the 136 in 18.2 overs with only 2 wickets lost. Margie and Selena opened the batting and held a brilliant partnership. Selena made 55 runs and Margie 52 not out, which included a lovely six!

It was great having Elaine Caverly back out playing and thanks to Jenny Bergin and Haley Burke for stepping up to play.

It’s great to have a win behind us. The girls have all been playing brilliantly and this was a win we needed and deserved. Long may it continue!

Ladies 1sts cup report

by Olivia Golden Uncategorized No Comments

Clontarf Ladies Firsts played the first round of the cup on Friday night and were unfortunately knocked out by Pembroke after a relatively tight game. Clontarf made 79 for 9 off 20 which while not a very high score it took Pembroke until the 18th over to catch. Marguerite Burke made 20 to follow her 36 runs against Malahide last week. We bowled and fielded very well with Selena Tainton taking 2 wickets for 12 runs off 5 overs. Cecily also took a wicket and kept the run rate down to 15 off 4 overs. Catches were taken by Viv Shaw and Selena. While it is disappointing to lose our first two matches it has been encouraging to see the noticeable improvement in the team which can be credited to the teams’ enthusiasm and the dedicated coaching we are getting from Selena. I look forward to putting up posts filling you in on our victories and want to thank the supporters who came out to Pembroke on Friday.
