NOTICE TO ALL PLAYERS - ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS NOW DUE

by Paddy Lee Uncategorized No Comments

All subs are now due. My expectation is that all players will have their subscription paid by Friday 8th August 2008. The committee have decided that anyone who does not fall into this category will not be considered for selection in upcoming games, unless they have spoken to me directly and agreed an alternative payment plan.

If you would like to pay by banking 365, please contact me at membership@clontarfcricket.com. Alternatively, please leave the money behind the club bar or send a cheque to my home address below.

Thanks

Paddy

5ths reach cup semi-final

by John Cotter Uncategorized No Comments

Clontarf V faced Sandyford III in the cup yesterday, and after winning the toss skipper McShane put the opposition into bat. Sandyford, who have lost only one match in 11 this year and sit on top of Junior B, were confident in their abilities and were described as “stunned” at tea when Clontarf bowled them out for 118 in 33.5 overs!! Brian Cotter took 3-29, Pavan 3-24. Clontarf won the game comfortabely in the end, making 119-4 in 32.3 overs, with P.Arya (more commonly known as Raj) making 43 and Kevin James blasting 34.

The fifths face North Kildare away in the semi-finals.

‘EMN’ sees off ‘The Village People’

by lindy Uncategorized No Comments

With the usual intermittent weather looming, the 2nd’s took to the field for their cup semi-final against ‘The Village’. Darce opened the bowling, with Stretch the other end. A couple of tame overs each and nothing much to report. Tight fielding and runs here and there, when suddenly………..big shout……I mean huge, Gilmore caught behind. NOT OUT, to the total disbelief and mild (cough) irritation of Mr. C D’Arcy.

Words were spoken (some of them possibly harsh), heckling from the crowd, to fuel an already volatile situation, when the umpire then decided to consult square-leg. The crowd waited with baited breath, OUT. More words (possibly harsher), louder heckling, managers and batting captain enter the fray (handbags drawn), when the umpire decided to again change his decision to NOT OUT. The scorers breathed a sigh of relief; we could at last put that dot in the book.

The game continued, but the incident had fired up Darce and he bowled like a demon, ending up with 1 for 44 off 12. The breakthrough came when Cully (acting Capt.) brought himself onto bowl. He broke the opening partnership and preceded the go on to take 4 for 40 off 10 overs. Brett bowled an amazing 12 overs, taking 1 for 26 and Spellers was his superb best with 4 for 28 off 11. The fielding was excellent, with Richie, Darce (2), Cully and Richard all taking catches. An outstanding team effort that kept Malahide to 164 all out.

In for a spot of tea and a quick gander at the golf and it was pad up Reid and Forrest. Safe call of ‘well played Richie’ for those not paying attention. The lads batted steadily for 33.5 overs, putting on a total of 134 runs between them, when Richie…….Forrest decided that he just didn’t want to steal Richie……Reid’s limelight so got himself out on a very respectable 51. Enter Mattie D to lend a supporting role to ‘Every Mother’s Nightmare’. Mattie (9 no.) batted very unselfishly to give ‘EMN’ the strike, allowing him to finish on an unbeaten 101 with plenty left in the tank.

A fantastic performance by everyone and a great team spirit, now sees the 2nd’s into the Cup final, which I believe will be played in Leinster on the 2nd August (don’t quote me on that). Let’s hope the 5th’s can pull off a result tomorrow to make it a hat-trick of cup wins this weekend. Until the next time…………
